PCE LIBRARY UPDATE
I’m
Kenneth Gariepy, the PCE’s first professional, volunteer librarian, and
this is the first of what I hope will be a regular column about the
library. I’d like to tell you a little about myself and what John G.
(my assistant) and I have accomplished since we started working
together in October.
I bring over 21 years of experience with Edmonton Public Libraries
to the PCE. I’m a PhD student in educational administration and the
contributing editor of a new book called Librarianship and Human
Rights: a Twenty-first Century Guide. I’m firmly committed to providing
and preserving resources for and about our community through the
library.
John and I have weeded the collection, which is now approximately
4,000 volumes. I’m busy creating the first electronic catalogue, which
will be available on the Web. Please be patient as I catalogue and
label the collection, which will take many weeks to complete.
When the cataloguing is finished, I’ll be creating a digital
archives, which will help preserve the history of our community. I’ll
also be indexing periodicals such as Outlooks and Perceptions, which
will make it possible to find articles in the back issues of these
publications.
I welcome your donations for the library, but please ensure that they are GLBTQ-related and in good condition.
I look forward to meeting more of you as the work continues!
