SPONSOR THE PRIDE CENTRE FOR A DAY RECOGNITION PROGRAM!

Did you know the basic necessities to keep the Centre open cost $3000 a month? With our new sponsorship program you can do your part to help keep this vital resource of our community open. For only $100 you can sponsor the Centre for a day. You can pick your day and you will be recognized in our list of sponsors in the monthly newsletter. Call the Centre for more information.

PRIDE CENTRE – PRIDE PARADE FLOAT

This year, as in years past, the Pride Centre will be building a float for the June Pride parade. We would like to ask for your help in coming up with float ideas. How would you like your Pride Centre to be represented this year? All ideas are welcome and will be considered. Volunteers are also needed to change these ideas into reality! Call JP at the Pride Centre to submit your ideas and/or volunteer your time for this event.

PCE LIBRARY UPDATE

I’m Kenneth Gariepy, the PCE’s first professional, volunteer librarian, and this is the first of what I hope will be a regular column about the library. I’d like to tell you a little about myself and what John G. (my assistant) and I have accomplished since we started working together in October.

I bring over 21 years of experience with Edmonton Public Libraries to the PCE. I’m a PhD student in educational administration and the contributing editor of a new book called Librarianship and Human Rights: a Twenty-first Century Guide. I’m firmly committed to providing and preserving resources for and about our community through the library.

John and I have weeded the collection, which is now approximately 4,000 volumes. I’m busy creating the first electronic catalogue, which will be available on the Web. Please be patient as I catalogue and label the collection, which will take many weeks to complete.

When the cataloguing is finished, I’ll be creating a digital archives, which will help preserve the history of our community. I’ll also be indexing periodicals such as Outlooks and Perceptions, which will make it possible to find articles in the back issues of these publications.

I welcome your donations for the library, but please ensure that they are GLBTQ-related and in good condition.

I look forward to meeting more of you as the work continues!

THE PRIDE CENTRE WELCOMES NEW STAFF!!

We at the Pride Centre would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the newest member of our Staff. JP Hermano will be working at the centre for the summer in administration. He comes to us with a great amount of experience at MacEwan’s Students Association, and we are pleased to welcome him to our team.

Please feel free to contact JP if you have any questions about booking meeting space, volunteering or any other questions you have about the centre. Brendan Van Alstine has been with the centre part time as our youth program coordinator for the past year. We are pleased to announce that he will now be working full time at the centre and we look forward to expanding our youth program.
