Alberta Blue Cross Edmonton

Administers health benefit plans for government-sponsored programs such as Coverage for Seniors. Provides employee group benefit plans for Alberta businesses and health benefit plans for individual Albertans. Provides emergency travel coverage plans for individuals travelling outside Alberta or Canada.

Alberta Senior’s Benefit Program

The Alberta Seniors Benefit program provides support in addition to the federal benefits received under Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Federal Allowance and the GST credit. It is based on income and provides monthly cash benefits to eligible seniors.

Canadian Human Rights Commission

Administers the Canadian High Rights Act which prohibits discrimination by federally regulated employers and organizations on any of 11 grounds contained in the Act (sex, race, disability, etc.). Investigates complaints filed under the Act. Provides seminars and workshops on human rights issues.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP)

Your contributions to the Canada Pension Plan provide you with a stable and dependable pension you can build on for retirement.  Your contributions also provide you and your dependents with basic financial protection if you become disabled or die.

 

Dental Assistance for Seniors

The Dental Assistance for Seniors program is based on income and provides low- to moderate-income seniors with financial assistance for basic dental services that help maintain a reasonable level of dental health. You could be eligible for up to a maximum of $5,000 of coverage for eligible procedures every 5 years.

Legal Aid Alberta

Provides legal services at a reduced cost to those who are unable to obtain a lawyer from their own resources. Matters include adult and youth criminal charges, Child and Family Services Authority (FKA Child Welfare) matters, and family law. Coverage based on eligibility. Provides referrals for those who do not qualify.

Optical Assistance for Seniors

The Optical Assistance for Seniors program is based on income and is for low to moderate income Albertans, aged 65 or older. The program contributes up to $230 every three years for the purchase of prescription eyeglasses.
